In this private tutorial, the student(s) will learn how to forge a shallow bowl, color it and protect it from rust. We will cover forge safety, hammering ergonomics, and the skills for shaping a bowl. Tuition covers 2.5 hours of instruction during the daytime to be scheduled a week in advance between the instructor and student.
Starting from a leaf blank, we will do the following:
- Forge the blank into a bowl
- Use dye and bench grinders to remove the mill scale
- Heat the metal with MAPP gas to color it
- Apply protective finish to the bowl

Important Note:
Please wear only cotton, wool or leather. Synthetics melt to your skin when the sparks fly.
About the Instructor:
Metal sculptor Jacqueline Sowell is a tech-world defector, trading her career in the software industry for a life of making things with her hands and enjoying the community of her students and fellow artisans. She takes pride in teaching workshops that cross disciplines and provide a bigger window into the world of metalworking.
Jacqueline splits her time between creating animal sculptures, including commissioned pet portraits, teaching workshops, and helping other metalworkers achieve their goals through CNC cutting services and welding workshops.
