Intro to Soft Glass Torch Work with Dr. Glass - 05/30/25, 06/06/25

About this class:
This two-session class will introduce new glass workers to the world of bead making! No prior experience is necessary; all equipment, materials, and supplies will be provided. 

The class will provide a hands-on learning experience in the fundamentals of melting soft glass to make an entire necklace of beads. Some of them will not be perfect, but some will be beautiful. It will also include an introductory crash course in glass physics and chemistry.

Topics Covered:

First session:

• Safety, posture, and ergonomics
• How to use a torch and other essential glass tools
• Basic bead-making techniques
• The history of glass and bead-making forms. 

Second session:

• Practice techniques of bead-making
• Guided work time for individual projects 
• How to clean and finish your beads

You will leave this class not only with a pile of brightly colored beads but also with knowledge of basic torch operations, hot glass terminology, safety (so you don't burn your eyebrows off!), and a strong desire to make more glass.
