About This Class
Amber is cookin’ up a fun intro to carving & printing experience!
This class series is for members only. Public printmaking classes coming very soon.
In this class you'll get two hours of instruction on relief printmaking.
You'll understand the basics of this empowering craft, carving, inking, and printing fall inspired designs.
The class will begin with a tour of the studio, intro to the tools and techniques required as well as relevant safety, then a relaxing period to carve our blocks, with spaciousness for you to take breaks as needed throughout. There will be blocks with simple images on them ready to carve, and if you’re quick, blanks to draw your own design. The second half of the class will focus on inking and printing these fall treasures onto the cards and cloths. Welcome to the Past Lives Printmakers Guild! Our print studio is an exciting new space for printmakers of all types and skills! We have a fully equipped studio to explore an assortment of printmaking techniques and paper making. We currently are not set up for etching but are working towards this. The studio is reservable for members looking to make editions or work on larger prints. We have a bottom driven etching press with a 36” x 40” bed and etching blankets. Two 3D printed PICA letterpress proofing presses with 6” x 10” bed and removable mounting blocks for unmounted matrices. UV Lightbox for cyanoprinting 11” x 17” and an in house paper and supply shop.
The Guild of Printmakers strives to preserve and pass on the knowledge, art, and skills of working in print. We plan to meet once a month, to be determined when soon. These meetings serve as a space for a general guild update including things from finances to events, a space to communicate concerns &/or excitements, and an opportunity to brainstorm for ideas big and small, ideally snacks will be present and the meeting minutes can be found linked above. Education is one of our primary goals. We plan to host a variety of skill and knowledge-building classes including intro to relief printing, cyanoprinting, how to make your own paper, and developing a series of artists talks to bring more people into Past Lives. We hope to generate more memberships to expand the Past Lives community while broadening our views on what is possible within the world of print. The Guild of Printmakers is a space of collaboration, communication & camaraderie.

FAQ
What's your cancellation policy?
We know plans change, but late cancellations and no-shows leave empty seats that could've gone to someone on the waitlist, and instructors still prep materials and hold space for every registered student. Here's how we handle it:
Canceling with 48+ hours' notice: No fee. Please cancel by emailing classes@pastlives.space as early as possible so we can offer your spot to someone on the waitlist.
Canceling with less than 48 hours' notice, or no-shows: We do not offer refunds for late cancellations and no-shows.
Emergencies: We understand things come up. Emergency exceptions are handled case-by-case. Please reach out to us directly, and we'll work with you.
How to cancel: Email classes@pastlives.space
Is the space accessible?
We have a ramp to reach our first floor, but please note that Past Lives Makerspace is not currently ADA accessible, and we do not have ADA accessible restrooms at this time. If you have questions about accessing a specific class or space, please reach out to us at studios@pastlives.space and we'll do our best to help.
Do I need any prior experience or skill level?
Generally, no! Our classes are designed for all skill levels, from complete beginners to those looking to refine existing techniques. Each class description will note if any prior experience is recommended.
What do I do once I arrive at Past Lives?
Our building is secure, and our doors are locked. The instructor will meet you at the front door to let you in 10 min. before your scheduled class time. If you don't see anyone, please knock!
