About This Class
In this two-hour class, learn this intuitive art practice using free-flowing lines, softened intersections, and shapes and color. Let your mind relax and wander; no right or wrong. And no experience is necessary.
The invitation is simple: slow down, follow the line, notice what happens, and allow the drawing to evolve organically. All materials included.
About the Instructor
An active member of the Past Lives community since 2022, Dixie Denman Junius is an artist, visual poet, papermaker, author, and teacher with over 30 years of experience. Raised in New York's Catskill Mountains near the Woodstock art colony, she grew up surrounded by artists, musicians, and makers. In the early '90s, Dixie left a consulting career to become a full-time artist, studying papermaking at UCLA under Harriet Germain and taking private instruction in Japanese papermaking with Yoshio Ikezaki.
Today, Dixie is a mixed-media abstract artist working in watercolor, ink, and more, often weaving asemic writing (wordless, expressive mark-making) into her pieces. Her work has been published in literary and art journals, shown in a solo gallery exhibition, and collected throughout the United States. She is the author of Circling the Start, and her own meditative practice of layering line and color makes her a natural guide for this class.

Supported by the Visual Arts/Gallery Guild
The visual arts guild was started as a way for artists to have workspace even if they aren’t renting a studio. It’s meant for anyone who is practicing traditional arts and crafts. A place to share skills, create art together, or have some chill space to make something on your own. Shelves are available for rent at $5 a month. We have a large variety of art and craft supplies that are free for member use. Every Thursday is Parallel play night from 5-8. It's a super low key way to meet people, create work, and have cookies. Bring a project or raid the supply cabinet and join in! We also host the mosaic club in our space and can show you how to get started in mosaics if you desire.
The visual arts guild also runs the gallery space downstairs which offers space for classes and hosts the monthly First Friday Art Walks and Model Drawing every 4th Sunday.

FAQ
What's your cancellation policy?
We know plans change, but late cancellations and no-shows leave empty seats that could've gone to someone on the waitlist, and instructors still prep materials and hold space for every registered student. Here's how we handle it:
Canceling with 48+ hours' notice: No fee. Please cancel by emailing classes@pastlives.space as early as possible so we can offer your spot to someone on the waitlist.
Canceling with less than 48 hours' notice, or no-shows: We do not offer refunds for late cancellations and no-shows.
Emergencies: We understand things come up. Emergency exceptions are handled case-by-case. Please reach out to us directly, and we'll work with you.
How to cancel: Email classes@pastlives.space
Is the space accessible?
We have a ramp to reach our first floor, but please note that Past Lives Makerspace is not currently ADA accessible, and we do not have ADA accessible restrooms at this time. If you have questions about accessing a specific class or space, please reach out to us at studios@pastlives.space and we'll do our best to help.
Do I need any prior experience or skill level?
Generally, no! Our classes are designed for all skill levels, from complete beginners to those looking to refine existing techniques. Each class description will note if any prior experience is recommended.
What do I do once I arrive at Past Lives?
Our building is secure, and our doors are locked. The instructor will meet you at the front door to let you in 10 min. before your scheduled class time. If you don't see anyone, please knock!
